Approximately 1,050 acres +/-
This is one of the very last large tracts of pristine ranch land left in Santa Fe County. It has breathtaking views, is very private, the last property on a dead end county road, is surrounded on three sides by other large ranches and BLM lands and has the Galisteo river running through it's entire length. It is twenty minutes to Villa Linda Mall and south side shopping and thirty minutes to the plaza! It's truly enchanting, with breathtaking, southwestern views. There are five major movie sets in the area and the most significant one is off the back of the property on Tom Ford's ranch (Gucci) (very nice neighbor and wonderful man), where many movies have been shot. Several major actors have discovered the area while working on the set off the east end of the ranch and have bought land there as a result of falling in love with the area. It has a fascinating history that spans the Anasazi, thru the Comanche's and Apaches, the Spanish, the Civil War (Battle of Glorietta), and the wild west of the gringos and has become the high end homes of genteel people looking for beauty and solitude close to the second largest art market and the oldest capital city in the county. It has all the quality of life of the small city with incredible cultural assets and big city entertainment like the Santa Fe Opera, numerous fine restaurants, and an art market second only to New York. It's perfect for use as a pleasure ranch, a horse property with thousands of acres to ride, or a beautiful nature retreat. It's also unique because most of it is comprised of alluvial top soil on either side of the Galisteo creek, and produces unusually high levels of grass, considering that ranches in Santa Fe consist for the most part of semi-desert pinion and juniper lands.
This view is looking from an old Spanish ruin, across the Galisteo river valley, and thousands of acres of Bureau of Land Management ranch lands, then across other ranches in Santa Fe County and into the snow capped peaks of the southern Rocky mountains.
The river valley at this point in the ranch widens into rich grasslands.
This wonderful ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is located 20 minutes south of Santa Fe, and there's nothing like it on the market that close to town. It consists of 1,050+/- acres of truly enchanting hills, grass lands, cotton woods, pinion and juniper stands and old Spanish ruins with the Galisteo river running through it's entire length. It has breath taking views of the southern Rockies, the Jemez range and the Ortiz peaks.
The ranch is dotted with stone ruins of the old, abandoned, Spanish village of Ortiz, New Mexico. The one under the cottonwoods may have been the school.
The property has such spectacular, enchanting southwestern beauty that many movies have been shot in the area.
The ranch has the Galisteo Creek running through it's entire length.
It comes with 2,000 acres of BLM lease lands that have never been grazed by the present owner. The permit for the grazing rights on the BLM land is renewed each year at the discretion of the BLM. This gives the effect of having 3,000 acres. There are even more BLM lands adjacent to those
The last property on a county maintained road, it lies half way between the villages of Cerrillos and Galisteo, and stretches through the length of the Galisteo river valley all the way to the west end of the 20,000 acre ranch owned by Tom Ford, the famous designer for Gucci, and a wonderful neighbor who appears to be interested in preserving the undeveloped and pristine nature of the area. It's surrounded by large ranches or government land on three sides, by two attractive smaller properties and a few $1,000,000+ to $2,000,000+ homes hidden in the hills to the west.
This ranch and it's immediate area has a great history. There are several major pueblo ruins in close proximity (all on private land). The Anasazi, lived in this area for thousands of years, probably because it had water, in a semi-desert area, and because the climate and terrain are so hospitable. Coronado, noted in his diary that he stopped here in 1542 , (probably for the grass and water) while he was following the Galisteo river to Pecos Pueblo in his search for the "seven cities of gold". He followed the Galisteo river through here, and must have gone right thru this ranch, because the best grass and water in the area lies in the riparian pastures on this property. He noted that the nearby San Lazaro Pueblo, was occupied at the time by a very healthy and prosperous looking people. There is a little cemetery with the graves of settlers going back to the 1870's, and a bathing suit changing shed and diving board from the 1940's when a spring filled a local swimming hole.
In addition to the Galisteo creek, there are at least three wells, a spring fed pond that used to overflow into two adjacent (now dry) ponds, and numerous dirt "tanks" that trap run off water when it rains.
The improvements on the property, consist of an old, pueblo style house (probably the old ranch headquarters). This is a small house that needs a lot of TLC and the property really needs a new main house. It also has a new, beautifully designed "off the grid" guest house made of pumicecrete. There's an 1,800+/- square foot "straw bale" barn, with a state of the art green house designed to use solar gain and capture rain run-off. This is a horse lover's or naturalist's paradise.
Some of these lands may be eligible for "conservation easement" status and the associated federal income tax credits. It's a very special and unusual property, and deserves to be protected. The present owner has a keen interest in land conservation and soil preservation and has been operating a school called "Earth Works Institute" at the ranch. You may see this ranch at any time at your convenience.
This ranch in Santa Fe county, New Mexico has been divided into very beautiful tracts of approximately 40, 80 and mostly 140 acres of very private, pristine land and is about 20 minutes south of Santa Fe. It has breathtaking views of several mountain ranges and is surrounded by other large ranches. These could be used as a pleasure or horse ranches or a very private nature retreat. The photos are very poor quality and the landscape is so huge and spectacular that it's difficult to photograph.
It has breathtaking views of the Sangre de Christo range (southern end of Rockies), the Jemez range, the Ortiz peaks and Los Cerrillos (little hills). The ranch consists of approximately 1,860 acres of truly enchanting hills, arroyos, pinion and juniper and grass lands and has unobstructed views all the way to the horizon.
It is completely private with the Silver ranch to the north, the 30,000 acre "Cook" ranch to the east, a gigantic ranch to the south and an 8.800 acres tract to the west.
The land has such breathtaking southwestern beauty that many movies have been shot in the immediate area.
It was occupied by the Anasazi, for thousands of years. It was occupied when Coronado, stopped here in 1542, on his way to Pecos Pueblo in his search for the "seven cities of gold".
There is a "sacred spring" on the ranch, hidden in an arroyo with wild watercress growing below it.
Because it is surrounded by large tracts of private land, it has become a haven for wildlife.
You can see this ranch any time at your convenience. I have four real gentle horses on the property and the best way to see it is on horse back.
This is a 1,020 acre piece of the old Cash ranch and includes the headquarters buildings and corrals. The ranch consists of approximately 1,020 acres of truly enchanting hills, arroyos, pinion and juniper and grass lands and improvements. It is very pristine, private land and has unobstructed views all the way to the horizon. There are several other ranches available (see "Ranches"). It includes the old ranch headquarters, well, power, phone, outbuildings and corrals. This ranch would make an exceptionally beautiful, private county home site, horse property or nature retreat. It has an incredibly rural, country feeling for something this close to town. From most parts of the ranch there is no sign of human habitation all the way to the horizon for 360 degrees. It is completely private with the Silver ranch to the north, the 30,000 acre "Cook" ranch to the east, a gigantic ranch to the south and a few $1,000,000+ homes hidden in the hills on large tracts of undividable land to the west.
Located in Santa Fe County, New Mexico, this ranch land is also a piece of the old Cash Ranch and would make a perfect large country home site, retreat or horse property. This pristine land is only 20 minutes from Santa Fe, has incredible, breathtaking views of the southern Rocky mountains, the Jemez range, the Ortiz peaks and Los Cerrillos (little hills). It consists of approximately 840 acres of land that is truly enchanting, with hills, arroyos, pinion and juniper, and grass lands. This land is very pristine and private and has unobstructed views all the way to the horizon.

The land has such breathtaking southwestern beauty that many movies have been shot on adjacent land and is probably the reason several celebrities "discovered" this country and bought property near here.
There is a "sacred spring" hidden in an arroyo with wild watercress growing below it on the southeast corner of the land. This may have been the reason the pueblos were build there.
The land is covered with evidence of the Anasazi civilization, pot chards, arrow heads, matate's, and fire pits. It's dotted with the ruins of the stone houses of the abandoned Spanish village of Ortiz, New Mexico.
This would be a fantastic horse property or a nature lovers paradise. Because it is surrounded by large tracts of private land, it has become a haven for wildlife. It may be eligible for conservation easement status and the associated federal income tax credits.
You can see these ranches any time at your convenience. I keep four real gentle horses there which is the best way to see it.
Sorry, this has been sold. But I know another one!

This county retreat is a recreational "ranch". It's in an area of working ranches and sits by itself, at the end of a county road just out side the village of Ribera, New Mexico. It has an old adobe house, with vigas and latias three car stone garage/studio, out buildings and a "spring". The 200 acres are on a "mesa" on the side of a mountain over looking the Pecos river valley. It is very private, has fantastic views and is only 45 minutes from Santa Fe and 20 minutes from Las Vegas, New Mexico.
This is a working cattle ranch thirteen miles south of Galisteo, and about 35 minutes south of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
It consists of (very approximately) 9,500 acres or rolling high plains, desert type county. It runs about 50 acres per AUM. The northern end of it has awesome views of the Sangres and there are views to the horizon in every direction. It highest and best use at this time would probably be as a development of large recreational ranches or one huge private recreational ranch. It's very open country with magnificent vistas.

Ranch land for sale near Las Vegas, New Mexico consists of over 600 acres of pristine ponderosa pine and open meadows. It has a pond in a meadow, and backs up on other large ranches, yet it's easily accessible. It's a very short distance from Las Vegas, New Mexico and about 45 minutes from Santa Fe.
There is no sign of human habitation all the way to the horizon of the mountains in old Mexico and the Pellencio Range on the Arizona state line. The famous Grey Ranch, which is in a "conservation easement" lies to the south and west. The ranch is in a canyon at the base of Rough Mountain and a large portion of the mountain lies within the associated 2,100 acres of BLM and State leased lands accessible only by the ranch owner. This is the ultimate in privacy. A spectacularly beautiful retreat.
