New Mexico Ranches

Rough Mountain Ranch

Animas, New Mexico

$750,000

This ranch is called The Rough Mountain Ranch after the mountain that sits in its northeast corner. The ranch is in the "boot heel" of New Mexico where it meets Arizona and Old Mexico. This is really getting away from it all. Some of the most remote country in the lower 48 states. There is no sign of human habitation all the way to the horizon of the mountains in old Mexico and the Pellencio Range on the Arizona state line. The famous Grey Ranch, which is in a "conservation easement" lies to the south and west. The ranch is in a canyon at the base of Rough Mountain and a large portion of the mountain lies within the associated 2,100 acres of BLM and State leased lands accessible only by the ranch owner. This is the ultimate in privacy. A spectacularly beautiful retreat.

The wild life includes mule deer, Couse deer (small white tails), Javelina, quail, doves and mountain lions, and there species of wild life in the Animas mountains to the south that exist no where else on earth.

This is Apache country. There is evidence of Apache use on the ranch. It was part of the nomadic lands of the Chiricahua Apaches like Cochise and Geronimo. The ranch looks west (with no interruption) all the way to the Pellincillos where Skeleton canyon lies on the Arizona side. That's where Geronimo once surrendered to General Crook in 1885.

The It's impossible to photograph the immense space and beauty of the south west, especially in these little snap shots. The beauty of the land ,and the country all the way to the horizons, is breathtaking.
